Deborah Richardson-Webb / Groundedness
Red sandstone ground against hard flat rock
River water
Red triangle on pale stone
Vivid green fronds pressed into a spiral
Pigment dries in the spring sun.

There is one comment on Groundedness:
Grow:
I’ve been swimming again.
I stand outside,
night time.
Red eyes,
chlorine,alkaline,
hollow mouth
and the taste of acid vinegar,
and bits of potato and salt.
A ritual for after swimming.
It’s familiar,
as much as the orange glow
the sound of the cars,
the strangeness of
the cool night air
on my wet straw hair,
the pressure marks round my eyes,
the urgency of wanting
to be at home
in front of the TV warm on the couch,
or in my room playing.
I haven’t dried myself properly.
And now,
July 18th, 2011 at 5:12 pmit comes over me,
in a way that time alone
can’t measure.
I am now on a step,
a cold concrete block,
out of the back
close of my large
tennemant flat,
half naked,
wet hair,
at night,
waiting for my dog to pee.
I am 24.
The air is cool.
The smokey taste of whiskey is in my mouth.
I enjoy it’s familiarity-
like the cool night air
and the orange glow
of the garden security light.
